Casting and fitting Muja's ankle-foot orthoses, AFOs

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu

Muja, her father and me went to see Andrew, an Orthopedic Surgeon at Orthotic Solutions for fitting Muja ankle-foot orthoses, AFOs. At today's appointment adjustment of the straps and trimming to fit her legs were made. We waited for 15 minutes for him to do any modification. Alhamdulillah Muja was relaxed when fitting done so it was easy putting them on her legs.

We will come back in two weeks to review for any modification. Meanwhile we have to keep on eye of any pain or skin marks that do not disappear within half an hour or develops blisters.

Early this month we came here for casting. Alhamdulillah the casting went well. Her father held her while the Orthopedic Surgeon did the casting with long plaster bandage around the leg. We waited for 5 minutes until it sets, then took it off. Then the same thing was done to her other leg. The process of making it takes 2 to 3 weeks.

Muja wears AFOs since she was one year old. Her first AFOs was organised by Nadine, one of PMH excellence physiotherapist and funded through the Princess Margerate Hospital. She had her casting at PMH Orthotic Department. I remember we had a bad and difficult time for the casting because she wont let us held her legs.

When she was 2 and half she has her second AFOs, but this time was funded through The Center for Cerebral Palsy. The casting and the fitting were done at the center as well. Although we got the fund through the center this time, the casting and fitting were done at Orthotic Solutions.

When I made her next appointment for review, I signed the invoice to TCCP. My eyes could not believed at the amount written there for $728.00. Well, my special needs child needs special people to custom made her foot wear for a special price funded by special ordinary kind and generous people to The Center of Cerebral Palsy. I urge all of us to support the center so that special needs people have opportunity. The link for donation is here. By your donation you can help my daughter and also other children and adults living with Cerebral Palsy.
