The Cerebral Palsy League is calling for the private health insurance rebate to be extended to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
Spokesman Geoff Rowe says many cerebral palsy sufferers cannot afford private health insurance and often face long waiting periods for treatment.
Mr Rowe says families need more financial assistance
"People with cerebral palsy by and large have a significant number of medical bills associated with their disability," he said.
"For a lot of the parents of young children with a disability we find that one of them has to give up full-time work to care for their son or daughter, so immediately their income is reduced."
