Living with Disability: My NDIS Story.

My daughter, Muji, is 20 years old and has cerebral palsy. Those two words include a world of challenges, but also a world of love, resilience, and unwavering hope, all grounded in the belief that "Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease" (Quran 94:6). Muji is non-verbal, can't move independently, relies on a feeding tube, and experiences seizures, which can cause temporary lost of consciousness and uncontrollable movements. Her needs are complex, and managing them has been a journey of constant learning, adaptation, and advocacy. Before the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), we navigated a complex landscape of support through the Disability Services Commission and other government departments. It was a system that composed many different sections, often difficult to navigate and with varying levels of support.

💚 March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, and this year feels extra special. I'm so proud to share a new infographic poster I created to help gently explain Cerebral Palsy to young children. This poster is especially close to my heart as it was inspired by my own wonderful grandchildren. They have an amazing aunt, Muji (my daughter) , and a younger uncle, Nazeem (my nephew), who both live with CP, and their beautiful, natural inclusion of them both just fills me with joy. My grandchildren are wonderfully curious and inclusive - they always gather around Aunt Muji's wheelchair, watch with fascination when I'm tube feeding her, and are captivated when she uses her communication device. Epilepsy Day: Shining A Light On A World We Navigate With Love

Today, March 26th, is Epilepsy Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about epilepsy , a neurological condition that affects millions worldwide. For me, it's a day that filled with the daily reality of loving and caring for my incredible 20-year-old daughter, Muji.

A new postural suit for Mujhee.

It was suggested by Mujhee's teacher/conductor last year to have a custom made second skin suit for her posture. During June 2010 someone from Second Skin came to Mujhee's school to make an assessment wheater a second skin will benefit Mujhee. Early August 2010 I received a letter from Second Skin recommending Mujhee for a postural suit after that initial assessment. Looking at the qoute I was shocked, and contacted Mujhee's OT for an advise. She suggested me to try apply funding through AARBIC. She helped with the application. Alhamdulillah soon after Eid ul Fitr 2010 we received a great news that the funding was approved. Alhamdulillah we got an appointment right away, other wise the next clinic would be in six months.
